3-ml blood samples from patients were taken for the measurement of blood and plasma density (mechanical oscillator technique), hematocrit, and hemoglobin content.

Blood and plasma density values can be used to precisely calculate hematocrit and blood hemoglobin concentration. Thus, in addition to the calculation of total protein concentration of plasma (Holzer et al: J. Clin. Chem, Clin. Biochem. 16, 391-5), blood densitometry yields additional information.
